Fill the Cookie Jar: Recipe #1
It’s no secret I prefer to make most of our food from scratch, and snacks are no exception! I keep a cookie platter or some type of sweet treat ready at all times.
My go-to recipe is, hands down, this Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe! You can make them into bars, extra crispy, swap the chocolate for other flavors or candy bits, top with sea salt flakes- the possibilities are endless…but I’m just going to share the basic recipe with you, well, because it’s the best!

Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, melted
- 1.5 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg + 1 egg yolk
- 1 T vanilla
- 2.5 cups flour
- 1 t baking soda
- 0.5 t salt
- 12 oz semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup dark or milk chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Mix butter and brown sugar until well combined. Add egg, yolk, and vanilla and mix well. Add dry ingredients and mix until combined. Stir in 12 oz of chocolate chips until evenly distributed. Drop by rounded tablespoon (about 1.5” ball) onto parchment paper lined pan. Top each cookie with 5-7 additional chips. Bake for 7-8 minutes, or until the edges are set and the middle looks slightly under cooked. Remove from oven and allow to cool on hot pan for 10 minutes. This will allow them to finish cooking while remaining soft and chewy. Move to a cooling rack to finish cooling.
For crispier cookies, cook until middle is fully set, remove from oven and immediately to the cooling rack to prevent over cooking.
For bars, adjust oven temp to 350 degrees F and spread prepared cookie dough into a lightly greased 9×13 dish. Top with additional chips and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the center is set and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my fam does! If you have any questions or comments, please drop us a note below! This is the first recipe in our “Fill the cookie jar” series, so stay tuned for another recipe next week!
