We bought our lovely jersey cow, Harley, about a year ago. Ever since, we’ve had an abundance of milk that we can create all kinds of goodies from. Cheese, yogurt, kefir, butter-the possibilities are endless! I’m aways looking for ways to use raw milk to replace our grocery store staples and one must have item for me is coffee creamer. Of course you can never go wrong with a dollop of heavy cream in your coffee, but I found myself craving the sugary chemical-filled coffee creamers you find in the stores….so began my quest for the perfect homemade coffee creamer.
My favorite store bought coffee creamer is Natural Bliss Sweet Cream. It is fairly “good” for you compared to a lot of other brands, but it is pricey! This recipe is very similar to it and costs pennies to make. Of course, if you do not have access to raw milk and cream, you can use store bought milk and cream! If you like your coffee with a little cream and sugar, you’ll likely not need to add additional sugar if using this cream.
Recipe
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1 heaping tablespoon of cinnamon (optional)
Directions
In a medium saucepan, bring water and sugar to a boil and let simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved and begins to thicken slightly.
Pull from heat and whisk in heavy cream and milk. Whisk in cinnamon (if you want cinnamon creamer). Allow to cool before transferring to a glass jar and placing in fridge to chill. Store in the fridge for up to two weeks.
